Irshad Manji

Allah, Liberty and Love

Irshad Manji is the best-selling author of The Trouble with Islam Today and, most recently, Allah, Liberty and Love. Oprah Winfrey has given her the first annual Chutzpah Award for “audacity, nerve, boldness and conviction.”

Irshad is Director of the Moral Courage Project at New York University. This program develops leaders who will call out corruption at the price of personal backlash – whether in the financial, political, or religious spheres.

In those countries that ban her work, Irshad is reaching readers by posting free translations on her website. Through this strategy, young people across the Middle East, the West and Iran are spreading Irshad’s message of moral courage.

For her pioneering work, the World Economic Forum has selected Irshad as a Young Global Leader. The European Foundation for Democracy has her serving as a Distinguished Scholar. And Lesley Stahl, co-anchor of 60 Minutes, has named Irshad “the master of moral courage.”
