Availability

Please indicate your availability during the weekend of February 18-20, 2011. We love volunteers who take multiple shifts, so be sure to indicate all shifts you are willing to work. The duties are mostly physically light and social. Please see below for a more thorough list of jobs available during the Festival. Each volunteer will receive a Savannah Book Festival “EVENT STAFF” T-shirt to be worn during Book Festival events. Saturday volunteers receive complimentary coffee, tea and pastries.

A number of volunteer opportunities with varying time commitments are available.

Office Volunteer/Intern

Helping offce staff with mailings, name tags, event registration, answering the phone and returning phone calls about the event. This service will start in August and last throughout the festival completion. Please call the offce to arrange a time: 912-358-0575, or we will contact you directly to coordinate. The Savannah Book Festival office is located at 3025 Bull Street, Room 249.

Author Host

Author Hosts should keep in mind they will need to be available for all time slots.

Assigned to one author for the duration of the Festival, picking up and greeting him/her upon arrival, ensuring that the author arrives at functions on time and finally, ensuring that the author’s departure goes smoothly. Other duties may include serving as a guide to Savannah. Some authors will require more “hand holding” than others. Position works in partnership with a Driver, or may be combined with Driver position. Requires a cell phone, and depending on the author, a significant time commitment. This is an extremely important position, since you will be the author’s first and most intimate impression of the Festival. Requires punctuality, tact, enthusiasm and an ability to anticipate the needs of others without being intrusive.

Venue Usher

Ensure that each Venue’s audience is seated on schedule. Since some of our authors will likely attract a larger audience than their Venue will accommodate, this position will require diplomatic skills.

A volunteer training session is requested for new volunteers as it provides tactful and helpful advice and the importance of keeping the festival on schedule. The training session will last approximately an hour. The training sessions are located in the Trinity Church Sanctuary, 225 West President Street. Please attend one training session below:
