Dave Barry: Kick Off

Savannah Book Festival 2013

(SAVANNAH, GA) The 2013 Savannah Book Festival encourages everyone to lighten up a bit on Valentine’s Day and share side-splitting fun with author and humorist Dave Barry at a special SBF kick-off event on Thursday evening, February 14, 2013 at Savannah’s Trustees Theater. Now in its sixth year, this world class book festival will take place February 14-17, 2013 with Saturday’s all-day events free and open to the public. http://www.savannahbookfestival.org/

Barry will be focusing on his suspense novel, Insane City, which is scheduled for release in January, 2013. His previous book titles include I’ll Mature When I’m Dead, Babies and Other Hazards of Sex and Dave Barry is from Mars and Venus lest you have any doubt about his genre. Barry has been making folks laugh for decades with his newspaper columns, nonfiction, and novels for adults and children. In 1988 he won the Pulitzer Prize for commentary “…for his consistently effective use of humor as a device for presenting fresh insights into serious concerns.” He has written a total of 30 books, “…although,” he says, “virtually none of them contain useful information.”

Author Carl Hiaasen, quoted on the book jacket of Barry’s suspense novel Big Trouble, says, “Despite wealth, fame, and a tendency to under medicate himself, Dave Barry remains one of the funniest writers alive.”

Stephanie Duttenhaver, Festival board president said, “We are delighted to inject Dave Barry’s madcap humor into this year’s Festival. Barry is not only a Pulitzer Prize winner, newspaper columnist, fiction and nonfiction writer for adults and children-but also the lead guitarist in the band “Rock Bottom Remainders.” (Band mates include Stephen King and Amy Tan.)

Tickets for Dave Barry’s talk on February 14 at 6:00 p.m. will become available to the general public after November 19. They may be purchased for $10 from the Savannah Box Office. For information or to purchase tickets, contact the Savannah Box Office at 912.525.5050 or www.savannahboxoffice.com. Tickets are non-refundable, but are transferrable.
