MISSION & HISTORY
The Savannah Book Festival is an annual celebration of the written word, free and open to the public, honoring literature’s power to enrich the human experience. Our mission is to promote reading, writing, and civil conversation, bringing together authors and audiences in a shared love of storytelling and ideas.
Since its inaugural Festival in 2008, SBF has consistently presented nationally recognized, regional, and local authors to thousands of book-loving attendees. What began at Trinity United Methodist Church has grown into a multi-venue event: Festival Saturday now features more than 35 authors across seven venues surrounding three historic squares in beautiful downtown Savannah.
Over the past decade, more than 650 authors have appeared at SBF, including literary and cultural luminaries such as James Patterson, Stephen King, Diana Gabaldon, George Saunders, Anne Rice, Colson Whitehead, Janet Evanovich, John Grisham, David Baldacchi, Jodi Picoult, and Walter Isaacson. Attendees travel from across the United States to experience the curiosity, dialogue, and inspiration that define the Savannah Book Festival.
